Discomfort

Be willing to be uncomfortable. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. It may get tough, but it’s a small price to pay for living a dream.

Red, Red Wine

Red red wine. Here’s an ode to my favorite libation. When I was a wee lad my red wine of choice was merlot. Then I watched Sideways and then I thought I ought to branch out. Thus began my red wine adventure – cabernet, tempranillo, malbec, pinot noir, shiraz. They’re all on the list now. Tonight’s companion is a gorgeous Argentinian malbec. Bottoms up my friends …

Thank The Lord. The #EPL Is Back

After what seemed like an interminable wait, the Barclays Premiere League is back. O how I’ve missed thee! Today Cablevision is offering Arsenal v. Sunderland, Tottenham v. Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion v. Liverpool. Not my faves but, who cares? It’s all footie!

It’s All About Karaoke

So maybe it’s all the high school plays, dance performances or music lessons but I fancy myself a performer. Of course I don’t have the level of commitment to join a dance company or theater troupe. No, my comfort zone is my weekly karaoke ritual. Yes, I admit it.

I karaoke. Weekly.

On Thursdays (o happy day). Tonight I feel like trying something new. If you follow me on Spotify you can probably figure it out. Don’t judge.

Which Chelsea Will Show Up This Year?

So today is the Community Shield where the winners of the English FA Cup play the winners of the English Premiere League – the official start of the season (YES). This pits my team Chelsea FC against league champs Manchester City. Chelsea looked rocky in preseason; in those matches, as with today’s, we were without a full squad (Oscar is still due back from Olympic duty among others). Let’s see how they get this season started. Let’s go @chelseafc! #carefree

My Girl Destinee Hooker is About To Wreck *hit

The USA Women’s Olympic team is #killingit in these Olympics. First Gymnastics, then Tennis, then Beach Volleyball, then Soccer, then Track & Field, then Water Polo and most likely Basketball. I expect the Volleyball team to do me proud as well. Destinee Hooker & Logan Tom are my faves. Let’s Go USA!

Brasil v. Mexico

On paper this shouldn’t even be a contest. Yes Mexico has a strong team but the SeleΓ§ao is an AWESOME team. Despite that, Mexico draws first blood … Let’s see how this plays out.

Olympics Depression

I can already feel it coming on. The Olympics have been awesome. Even got me going back to the gym – impressionable I know. But now it’s almost over and I’m already bummed. Oh well, at least soccer starts this weekend!

P.S. NBC still sucks. But at least they cover volleyball.

A San By Any Other Name

So somehow I’ve managed to have back to back trips to San Francisco, San Diego, San Antonio and back to San Diego. I see a trend starting. It’s actually not such a bad thing as the San-cities are among my favorites. Whether its my favorite watering hole in SF (rickhouse) great tai fusion in SD (rama) or the riverwalk in SA I’m never at a loss to find something to occupy myself during my downtimes between meetings. Now if I could just get the some to come out (I thought it was always sunny here)!

The Joys of Spring

Ah the joys of spring. Flowers blooming, birds chirping, wedding season, parties, people shedding their winter clothes for the comfort of lighter spring fare; all good things. This is also usually the time of year that my dog Nalah (5 year old Havanes and a bundle of energy) starts whining anytime she sees anything that resembles a suitcase.

What she knows is that for me spring means travel season. In fact I just looked at my United account and see that in the next 2 months I have 6 trips not including the one I’m currently on. I know what you’re thinking … poor thing. Don’t get me wrong — I love traveling — but business travel is a different animal. It all sounds very glamorous – San Diego, San Francisco, San Antonio, Denver, Atlanta – but typically it’s all convention centers, conference rooms, unhealthy late night dinners and a marked lack of sleep. But yes it has its perks that have been well documented by ‘Up In The Air’ (minus the seedy bits of course).

Regardless, for my part will be looking forward to late spring when things slow down and I can start planning the next vacation which, will likely mean another flight but those are different. I’m thinking Caribbean or Mediterranean. As long as it’s hot and the water is blue I will be happy. Until the next time, I’ll be up in the air …

Fantastic Display of Girl Power

Not much to say. That was an epic match. There won’t be another match in this #WWC that will live up the the one just played by the USA and Brazil. I can’t say it enough – they [USA] played with incredible heart. A great example to all athletes and soccer fans. They didn’t get down on themselves despite the poor officiating and played on. Congrats and here’s looking forward to the next opportunity to impress and put all the naysayers to bed. Go Team USA!

Have Passport, Will Travel

It’s been years since I’ve travelled outside of the country. This is something I’m frankly, embarrassed to admit. So it’s with a generous helping of enthusiasm that I prepare for my trip to the French Riviera. Yes it’s a work trip but I’m confident I’ll manage to steal some time away to explore. See you on the other side friends … πŸ˜‰

Soccer Withdrawal

So with the Premiere League done, UEFA Champions League sorted, I’m feeling a twinge. Soccer’s been such a key part of the Saturday & Sunday morning routine. Guess I’ll have to (gasp) go do something this summer πŸ˜‰ Alas, ’twas a fun season & now bring on summer!

Barca Abuses United

It was never really close. Pep’s squad had total control for 70% of the match. Despite a valiant effort from Rooney (who always shows up in these big matches – nevermind the offside for Giggs), Fergie’s boys never had a chance. Alas the EPL title will have to suffice (and it does I’m sure). Faretheeewell Edwin. Good luck in the Community Shield Sir Alex.

Barca!

The Hangover (Original)

This movie just cracks me up. Can’t wait to see the new one … As you were.
